Elbereth of ElberethZone enthusiastically implemented the MultiEx functionality in his own multi-game archive extractor Dragon UNpack (DUN) by adding Mr.Mouse’s recently released MultiEx.DLL :). Head over to this thread to see Elbereth and Mr.Mouse discuss it until it was done. Also note that Dragon UNpack is a good extractor, despite lack of ability to import files in existing archives, which MultiEx Commander does have! 😛

Those of you that visited the XeNTaX MultiEx Forum recently may have noticed that this news is old. Indeed, but it had not been posted here. Well, here it is, with the correct date. Yes, Mr.Mouse released the engine behind MultiEx Commander for anyone to use in their own programs. MultiEx.DLL is the name of the app, and it comes with 69 Binary MultiEx Script (BMS) files that enable the DLL to open different game archives. It can be found in this thread, where discussion has already been started. : MultiEx.DLL, ever wanted one?

In the latest hard copy issue of PCZone Benelux Mr.Mouse wrote an article about “cracking” the different game archive formats. In the column he addresses the subject of usage of Hex editors to open game archives, and common features of game archives, the way they are usually build and how we can figure out these things ourselves. Suffice it to say it was an “How-to” to crack the formats of game archives. The column is entitled “Ken je format” in Dutch (“Know your format”) and part of the monthly “No N00bies” column!

It has taken a number of versions to get MultiEx Commander running on Win98, NT, 2000 and XP, and the version that should come closest to just that is now available. V3.7.2.3 supports extraction of resources from 137 game archive formats, 42 of which can be edited as well. The user may opt to download small formatscript files from the MultiEx Resource Website each time he opens a game archive that is supported, thus using always the most up to date formatscripts that MultiEx Commander needs. Alternatively, he can also use the local resources that come with the package, and only check the website for those local resource files and for new executables. Another option, added for fun, is to view the statistics of opened game archives by users that have the “always check the website for formatscripts” on. So you can check which games are most popular in MultiEx Commander usage. 🙂 Please read the help file for all options and changes.

8 months ago XeNTaX was reported dead. Now it seems this is only partly true. Yes, the MUSIC/Demo group XeNTaX has gone. But the MultiEx Department is still alive. Based on the number of downloads of this tool, Mr.Mouse (Michael Zuurman) and Captain Corny are continuing the website, and are currently considering other XeNTaX activities. So, XeNTaX is still the home of MultiEx Commander and future projects will be notified here.

Mr.Mouse (Michael Zuurman) quits all computer activities, he leaves XeNTaX and any IT stuff still running. Together with Mr.Ammo (Rolf Greven) he set up XeNTaX in 1989 as a Commodore 64 music group. Writing for the c64 diskmagazine Addybook from Blaze, composing tunes for XeNTaX and Blaze, later composing on Amiga and PC, and programming stuff in assembly and C++, just some of his accomplishments. His last work was MultiEx Commander v3.4b, which you can still find here. He even composed some c64 music at the beginning of this year. But after 12 years, it’s time to quit the computer nonsense and turn to other more rewarding things. Thus, with him gone, XeNTaX will die. You can still find some stuff at this website, but by the end of the period that we payed for at webhost, the site will go down. Forever. Here ends the last news item.
