There are those of you that will know audiofile analist Strobe from his multimedia file scanner Jaeder Naub, one of those cool tools that will rip any media from your files. However, did you know that Strobe is also a chiptune composer? Bet you didn’t huh! Check out some of his latest tunes right below right now! Deniz Oezmen and Benjamin Haisch (John_doe) reverse engineer compression or encryption techniques while you wait! Visitors of the Xentax boards will have met Deniz and Benjamin before and have seen their prowess. I felt it time to set the spotlight on them for some excellent work they did. While I am not afraid of reverse engineering compression/encryption techniques (read the Definitive Guide), I am absolutely no expert. However, these guys play that game in a higher league. Two pieces of work I’ll highlight.
Regulator visitors of the Xentax boards must have come across the threads that discussed Metal Gear Solid game resource archives. Already in 2003, forum frequenter TheDyingInformant posted a request for MGS support in MexCom, that was continued in another thread to finally end up in the Metal Gear Solid 2 – Any luck? thread started by her in 2004. At the time, yours truly could not figure out most of the archive format, but that last thread has seen a lot of people jumping in to try and solve the case.
